Spent March 10-11th at Upper Joffre Lake and skied the North Face of Slalok. The initial plan was to camp on the Matier Glacier, but we got to the upper lake later than anticipated and didn't want to attempt that slope with the sun out in full force. Set up camp at the upper lake instead, and observed several natural releases from steep solar aspects above the lake (one came close to the uptrack to the Matier Glacier). The melt-freeze crust made the start of our approach Sunday morning difficult, but the snow improved once we gained the glacier. There was quite a bit of wind affect on the summit ridge but once we dropped down onto the North slopes the snow improved and the ski down was great (and long)!
Several sun-triggered point releases were observed during the heat of the afternoon on Saturday initiating in steep, S/SW facing terrain above Upper Joffre Lake.
