Quick report
Started up the Muir approach with plans to make it to Camp Muir and ski the nisqually chute on the way down. However, the unexpected heat from the clear skies and lack of wind caused us to pivot and just try the chute. Once we were on the snowfield, we saw that conditions were deteriorating around the mountain. Snow was gloppy and skin wax was hugely useful. Due to the avy activity we were seeing and the number of rollerballs in the nisqually chute, we decided to ski along the ridgeline instead and drop in a lower and more west facing chute. Snow on the west aspect was incredible, chalky and fairly deep powder. Skinned out from the nisqually basin to panorama point and then skied to the car in somewhat heavier but still fun snow.
Avalanche
Multiple slides observed: Serac fall on upper nisqually glacier, then a massive slide that broke from close to the summit and created a big cloud all the way down to the snowfield. Additional slides observed on the Nisqually Glacier as well as substantial rockfall. One wet loose D1.5 released from above the nisqually chute on the skiers right hand side, ran down to the bottom of the chute. A skier was in the middle of the chute at the time and it ran next to them as they descended.
