Quick Observation

Extreme northerly winds all day were blowing the snow off the north faces and onto sheltered southerly aspects. The windblown snow was forming big drifts at ridgetops and building soft windslabs 20 to 40cm deep over the old crust from the warming last week, which was down about 15cm in sheltered areas in the trees. We dug a snowpit at around 1460m in the trees and found no significant layers in the top 120cm aside from the crust. The best riding was in the trees out of the wind today.
