Air temperature: 23 degrees f Light to moderate snow all day (S1-S2). New snow starting 2/16 through 2/17 (1400):8” Light to Mod South winds transporting new snow and cross loading east aspects. Below 6500 feet and in more protected areas, I noted a developing storm slab in the corners of my skin track. We observed minor cracking on cross loaded slopes. As I skinned onto a more protected North aspect, I felt a large collapse. I conducted an extended column test and got propagation on the 7th tap, 65 cm down from the surface on January drought facets. We stayed out of avalanche terrain.
