Point 6

Dug a pit at 7800’ on a N aspect just off Pt 6. CT and ECTN around 20 on the most recent crust 25 cm down. Additional CT fracture about halfway through the snowpack on the mid December crust, but did not break cleanly or appear in the ECT. HS 145cm. ECT eventually failed with significant effort at the ground on a shovel pull following the tests and the column remained intact when it landed. Was able to get the top layer to move with some substantial jumps on skis above the pit. We felt confident skiing slopes > 30 degrees, being mindful of wind slabs. Did notice some cracking and slough running in the top few inches in steeper terrain, especially where wind affected, but the slough was not entraining additional snow or propagating cracks beyond what was under our skis. Snow quality was better than expected on all aspects, including a few south and SE facing runs that had firm sections and some roller balls under a few inches of medium density newer snow. We did speak with another party that mentioned propagation in a pit on a SE aspect at a similar elevation, though not concerning enough to dissuade them from skiing avalanche terrain on the same aspect. Overall takeaway in this zone is that things continue to heal.
