Quick report
Thin but supportive 2-3 foot snowpack highly variable depending on elevation and aspect. This area lacked the “mist freezing fog crust” observed in the mountains north of McCall. Early season conditions with many obstacles poking through the snow. Poor snow structure likely to be problematic once we get more snow. “Contain the stoke” will be my mantra for awhile. Did not see any old crowns, hear any collapses, cracking or see any wind affected terrain. Poor snow structure and low ride conditions kept me out of avalanche terrain.

Nice day above the inversion with the sun periodically breaking through the clouds. Cold enough in the shade to preserve surface hoar and warm enough in the sun to dampen the snow surface in the afternoon.
Snowpack
Dug 2 pits-1st one on a NW aspect at 7700’, total snow 75-80 cms. CT13 failed at old November faceted snow at ground. 2nd pit on a SW aspect at 7470’. Total snow 55 cms. Wet basal facets could make a snow ball with. CT 21 below 12/7 rain crust.
