Quick report
Skied on around Top today, on mostly N slopes between 8500’ and 10300’. We found a variety of surfaces, but almost all had been smoothed by the wind, and had started to facet to some degree. This made for consistent and enjoyable, but firmer skiing. Some old raised tracks and ghost boot packs existed, but even these had been softened by faceting. In the location where we bootpacked, boot pen was 5-10 cm and very supportable. Protected slopes at lower elevations had deeper amounts of soft, faceted surface snow. In all locations, we never found ski pen more than about 10 or 15 cm. Winds were out of the E today, and we observed some snow transport at the ridges, but nothing of significance. Air temperatures were very warm, and it felt downright hot in the sun. We got back to the car at Carson Pass at 1220, and the car thermometer read 51 F.
