Large cornice failures this morning from mitigation efforts by Tamarack Ski Patrol. Patrol used a combination of explosives and stomping by foot to get the cornice to fail artificially. Cornice blocks were about the size of a small U-haul trailer. Cornice blocks triggered 12-18" deep, wind slabs just underneath the cornice. Results from kicking and explosives were stubborn, with some cornice failing much farther back than expected.
