Dug a quick pit in an open area around 5000' on a WNW aspect - 20-30 cm of right side up light density snow on hard base - no signs of the delicate crusts or facets. Open areas are heavily wind affected powder, trees above skied ok. Below 4500' trees have almost no base - tough traveling.
