We were going up the Chephren couloir when a cornice failure occurred and a chunk roughly the size of an oven came flying down the couloir. This was surprising to us because it was overcast and calm there did not seem to be an obvious trigger. Maybe the temperatures were warmer than we thought up high. Everyone was ok and we drove back to Canmore to enjoy a coffee in a location with less overhead hazard.
