Quick report
A beautiful day at the Pass. Sustained E wind kept it cool inbounds and out below ~4k. Inverted clouds in and out, but more sun than shade in the sky. Traveled several areas throughout the day: Cabin Creek: Cold, great grooming for the coverage. Viking Loop had smooth and fast skating. Inbounds at the Summit: Impressive grooming for the coverage. Firm, fast, fun skiing. Bring rock skis so you can shred with abandon; the troughs of bumps and heavy-traffic areas touch ground in places. We and friends, all season-passholders, are missing the uphill access. Today was a perfect inbounds uphilling day -- a great way to stay warm when crossing back into the resort on hybrid inbounds/backcountry days. Commonwealth access: Exceeded low expectations -- it is possible to get in and out, but allot extra time and extra caution for skiing on bushes. This isn't just low tide, but low-tidepooling. Small stumps are waiting to trip you up. A couple of creeks are open on the ascent. The trail bridge across Commonwealth Creek is completely gone. The stout log that's been just upstream for the last few years still looks to be in good shape. We turned in the trees a couple hundred yards shy of the waterfall. HS 80cm, Top 15-20cm is 4F velvet. A descending party reported warm conditions higher on Kendall, water coming off the trees and rollerballs. They stated that the best skiing was in the valley trees, but that they didn't find anywhere without bushes. Rest of the pass: See photos.
