A plan to tour out to Mt Ann was changed by seeing the numerous large avalanches on table mountain at the beginning of our tour. We headed over to Mazama Bowl, encountering one small wumph en route toward Herman Saddle. S faces heated up very quickly with the sun and it felt hot. We skied N and W facing terrain in Mazama Bowl and experienced no instability. The biggest surprise was found on a solar aspect near the top of a gully near 5800 feet. The snowpack was quite thin in rocky terrain, less than 40cm and was mostly sugary and crumbly facets underneath about 15cm of fresh snow. We didn’t experience and snowpack stability issues, but we didn’t love the faceted thin snow near rocky terrain. Solar aspects on the way out were damp and saturated but still skied well.
Avalanche
A few large slab releases on table mountain. These ran full length to the lake and seemed to originate and propagate between rocky features.
