Rain was present at all elevations from 5400 feet where we left the sleds to 8300 feet to the summit of Morrell Mountain. Isolated whoompfs on the way up the ridge above 7200 feet. We dug our snow pit on a NW aspect at approximately 8200 feet. ECTP 21 failed 83 cm down on basal facets. Snow pack hardness is all over the place. From top: fist/4f (103-95cm), to 4f (95-80cm), to 1f/p (80-75m), to 1f (75-53cm), and 4f/f (53-0). Skied mellower slopes and avoided roll overs that lead to terrain traps.
