Cheif Joseph Pass
Quick report
Trees on the highway, trees in the parking lot, trees across the trail. We got chased out of the field by falling trees today but still got some good data from open clearings.
Moderate danger at upper elevation for small pockets of wind slab, but much of the snow from the previous atmospheric river event is damp and unavailable for transport. Below 6000' there is not enough snow for avalanches.
No signs of instability noted.Weather

Windy! Steady in the 30s, gusts into the 60s. Strong enough to snap dozens of 12-18" lodgepole pine.
Snowpack
Overall the snowpack was still damp at 7300'. It is cooling, and the top few inches of the snowpack are forming a crust. The biggest concern remains the weak faceted snow near the ground. These facets are damp and once frozen, should create less of a problem.
