Type

snowpack

Coordinates

49.395967, -123.186002

Quick Observation

Snow conditions pretty awful, mostly just good to get some exercise. Though it was not as grabby as expected and still slightly soft on top, overall not quite as terrible as expected on the way down.

Snowpack

Wanted to practice digging a pit, so found a steep spot near where we transitioned. Slope approx 40deg. CT 11 down 45cm, SP We followed this up with an ECT: ECT 12 down 45cm, RP. Block did not separate from column after a few hard hits after the initial failure. Both appeared to fail on the recent thick rain crust. Snowpack below this crust appeared stable. Surface snow was firm and light rain was falling all morning. Did not see any signs of instability outside of our column tests, including some ski cut tests on micro terrain features.
