Today we went to the Hankin Backcountry area. We toured into the alpine to get a good look around and to get some fun turns in! We saw no new avalanches. The alpine has been wind affected by previous SW winds, and today the wind shifted to blowing from the SE. We saw snow being transported by the wind at ridgecrest, so features are now becoming cross loaded or reverse loaded. With the moderate hazard rating in the alpine and treeline today, we felt comfortable skiing complex avalanche terrain. However, we continued to use terrain travel practices to reduce our exposure to any remaining hazard. We spaced out on the skin track when climbing steep, convex slopes and we skied our objective one at at time. Epic day, thanks BBSS!
