Made the most of clear weather today to explore! We didn’t see any avalanches even though we saw a huge amount of terrain. It’s wind affected in the alpine and the riding quality was better in the trees. We dug in the alpine at 1650m on both West and East aspects. The snow is between 100-150cm deep and we found wind slabs up to 30cm deep to be reactive in Extended Column Tests (ECT) to moderate or heavy loads, but not producing propagating results. In some areas (West aspect, 1650m) there is 4mm depth hoar (weak crystals) at the ground below an early season crust. We did get one resistant planar Column Test (CT) result on this layer with hard taps.
