Quick Observation

Quick solo tour up to about 1700m. Start seeing signs of stiff windslabs once in the tree line at that elevation, decided to stop amd turn around, dug a quick pit to confirm my decision. Mostly crusty, sun and wind affected. Sheltered area above 1500m had great snow. Skin for 1km from the lot, off for 1km and back on for the rest. Skied down to 900-1000m with carefull bushwack skiing. No signs of instability, lots of pin wheeling all over the open face from snow falling from rocks and trees in the previous day.

Snowpack

Quick S facing pit at only about 25* angle to confirm what I was seeing before turning around. At around 16-1700m pockets of stiff wind slab started to show under a sun crust. Below that was mostly wind affected, softish sun crust and soft powder Approximate values: On CT,7-15cm, 9-40cm, 13-125cm(ish) On ECT, 11-15cm progation to entire surface, smooth appearance. 15-40cm, smooth and entire face. Fracture did not slide, but angle was only about 25*. Did not get any result on lower crust at around 125 cm on ECT.
