Good stretch of the legs, but that was about all that was good. Rain crust/surface hoar layer from the last high pressure is 2cm thick, found about 10-12cm down from surface and is widely unsupportive. We heard lots of whumpfing on the way up the skin track. Bad visibility, icy slopes and freezing rain all the way to ridgetop didn't help the already terrible skiing conditions.
Dug a pit at the top of the ridge. 130cm total snow. 2cm rain crust sitting 12cm below surface. Weak layer observed 33cm down. Another weak layer found 47cm down but seemed to be bonding to surrounding snowpack.
