Storm mountain fire break

We took the wrong skin track and ended up bushwhacking through trees for an extra 30 minutes - this track is lookers right up to the top of the fire break. Started along the bridge by the parking lot... Would not recommend - stick to the track along the highway. Snow was stable in this section along the trees though. Dug a pit about 3/4 of the way up the fire break on lookers right - got to 30 whacks until failure. The failure occurred about 20cm down only through half the column. Small facets were observed in the base layer along the ground. Snow was stable while skiing - did not observe anything of concern. About 5cm of powder then mostly hard underneath. Nice day of skiing however a bit skied out by end of day.
