Quick Observation
Gorgeous day to be out skinning. Always new the turns we’re going to be average at best. Started from the carpark at 9:00am, with -15 degree temps. Connaught Highway in far better condition than expected, easy skinning. We were a little undecided about our objective and missed our turn to get up onto the southeast ridge which would normally be the route up to Bruins Pass. Given the stable conditions and minimal number of groups out, we opted to skin straight up 8812 bowl. Southeast aspects far more icey than southwest. Encountered some harder sections to negotiate on the way up given how cut up some areas were which had then refrozen. Breakable crust 2-3cm present for duration. Boot packed half way up to summit from Bruins Pass but opted to drop in lower than summit due to how icey things were getting. Skiiing was slightly better than expected, crust broke easily and still softer snow present underneath.
