Quick Observation

Lots of wind reactivity on baldy. Group triggered 3 size ones on the way down, all remote triggers with no skiers involved in runout. All lee aspects, down slope and ridge tops had significant whumpfing and settling events throughout the day, becoming more dramatic through the day as it warmed. South aspect of lightning strike was less reactive, and lower angle but had become heavier in the later day. Our north aspect exit of lightning strike help fantastic skiing in protected trees, any large openings held variable snow ranging from unbreakable to dense wind slab.

Avalanche Information

South aspect of baldy rocks, remote triggered 3 seperate size 1 slides. One skier initiated a slide from above, while moving to a safe spot remote trigger the remaining hang fire on the slab. Second skier down remote triggered size one from approx 10m below the crown, under cut the supporting snow allowing for fail. All slides ran 50-60m. Approx crown depth was 10-20cm. All failures were on the recent formed wind slab.

Weather

Strong north wind, that seemed to get confused in the valleys and blow all directions. Significant snow travel at elevation. Warming snow pack, did not become heavy but did begin to be sticky.
