Quick report

I climbed Red Lake Peak today and descended a south east slope towards Red Lake. Despite the recent warm temperatures conditions were not quite full on spring. Snow surface texture was variable with areas of crust and transitional snow on more easterly facing slopes. Above about 9000' the winds began to pick up and were gusting in the strong range over the peaks. Despite the warm temps these winds kept the snow fairly firm until I descended below ~ 9500'. Snow on sunny slopes below ~9000' had roughly two inches of soft snow on the surface around 11am.

SE winds were moderate to strong above 9000'. Despite very limited soft snow there were small amounts of snow being stripped from south faces near the peaks.
