We found mostly supportable crust and 0-6" new snow in the Rattlesnake between 7-8200' on Sunday. Cold temps for 24 hours had refrozen the surface on the south, east, and northeast aspects we traveled on, with a thicker crust in wind exposed locations. The mushiest snow was late afternoon pockets in deep sheltered areas of the timber that had thermal protection from last nights cold. Seemed you would not want to seek out deep gullies in the trees. Temps stayed cold all day both at ridgeline and in the basin bottoms with snow staying on the northsides of tree branches and surface hoar preserved along ridgeline. We dug one pit about 40" deep on a 7900' southeast aspect about 100' below ridgeline in the full sun and found a right side up snowpack with dry snow and no evidence of percolation or water pooling on layers in the snowpack. We did not do any stability tests. Skiing was good where it had not avalanched during the warm spell which was widespread.
