Beautiful day above the low level clouds and fog. Light winds in shaded terrain kept a cool feeling throughout the day.
Snowpack
We had a guide training day today and were able to poke around in the snow on our tour of the Tamarack Peak area. Ski pen was not very deep as we moved through terrain, but as we took our skies off boot pen was down close to the ground. The mid and upper snowpack still remain fairly soft snow not having a stiff slab in place. At 9400' on a North aspect we dug a snowpit. Fist hard basal facets and depth hoar on the ground had a variety of layers of soft snow in the mid and upper snowpack ranging from Fist hard to 4F+/1F-. We got a ECTP-17 that failed on the top of the basal facet layer. These facets remain dry at this elevation and reactive to snowpack tests.
