Quick report
In a very cold and shaded, N facing couloir topping out closer to 5,000’ we observed a weak 5-10cm slab on top of preserved graupel and facets. It sheared easily and failed in skintrack/upslope tests when any supporting snow was removed from below. It seems like it was previously a denser layer of storm snow that has faceted and become weaker. We skied the feature with slope angles up to 50 degrees and observed no avalanches but avoided any unsupported convexities, where I would not have been surprised to see a slab pop out.
Avalanche
SS-ASc-D1-I, N aspect, 6,100’, wind loaded feature below corniced ridgeline. Worth noting, it felt quite stubborn and require jumping/stomping just above the SZ. It may not have released with a standard ski cut or the first turns. 20-30cm deep Observed a few additional naturals on similar aspects/elevations all on features with signs of previous wind loading.
