Quick report
2-3" of new snow fell Wednesday night and early this morning on everything above 3500'. By mid-day it was melting fast below the tree line. Old snow was patchy in channels and other protected terrain above 5500'. Above 6500 ' there was a lot of hard icy old snow in valleys, but rocks and ridges were wind scoured or melted out. There was a cloud deck toping out at 6000' that shaded the lower mountain, but above that it was cold and clear (20F in the morning) and, when the wind died at mid-day, intense sun on black rocks was causing some melting as high as 8000'. There were some roller balls between 5500 and 6000' by mid-day, but I saw no other signs of instability. The road to the Bivouac is officially closed but the gate is open and road is snow free. There is no snow at Marble Mtn and the snow-park gate is still closed.
