Great day for a walk with the NWAC Snowshoe Avalanche Awareness class. Didn’t feel like it snowed a lot throughout the day but it sure was windy. Observed cross loading on Mt. Herman in multiple spots, including quite low near the base. No cracking or collapsing observed on our travels below 4500’. Upper snowpack featured a density inversion with about 4” of new snow denser than the previous storms below it. Hand shears and a shovel tilt test both failed with moderate force on this layer.
