Quick Observation

Today we went up to the top of “Lone Pine Lite”, but decided not to ski it mostly due to poor visibility and a really cold and humid wind we weren’t properly prepared for. Below 2500m the snowpack felt fairly well consolidated with probing and we did not observe any signs of instability (see “Snowpack” for snow profile). Above 2500m we started to encounter scouring and new windslabs up to 60cm deep along the West Ridge of Mt Tupper with one whumph, although these seemed to be only near the ridge. Skiing down the Hermit slidepath we did not observe any signs of instability apart from minor sluffing over 40 degrees.

Snowpack

Pin shows approximate location of pit. Dug about 130cm deep, no results on late January layer.
