Red Mtn

Weekend out at Red Mountain. Beauty sunny day Saturday, graupel accumulation (2-5 cm) and significant wind at and above treeline Sunday. Glide crack seen across the valley, but otherwise no observed naturals in the area. Two pits dug (at treeline and below treeline, S and N aspects. HS 285 and 318 cm) had hard results in compression tests, failing resistant planar down ~30 cm and no propagation in ECT. During a treed run, one skier triggered a small (6 x 5 x .3 m) failure that did not run. Overall a right side up snowpack, no obvious Dec. SH, and a deep snowpack. Lots of wind effect up high, but delicious skiing to be had in the trees.
