Quick Observation

We saw one large cornice triggered avalanche out of a steep rocky north facing slope. We suspect this slab was formed from the southerly winds blowing in snow over the ridge and depositing it on the lee side. It appears that the Renshaw area received around 15cm in the last storm. We later saw more evidence of wind slabs forming and cornices collapsing on a smaller scale. We then decided to avoid steep north to east facing slopes altogether due to the recent avalanche activity on them and the further loading we saw due to the continued winds in the area. There was amazing powder in places that were sheltered from the wind and less than than 30 degrees in steepness that we really enjoyed riding today.
