Quick Observation

Pushed above the thick undercast on Saturday to check the alpine. Partly cloudy weather in the morning gave way to high clouds that stubbornly hang around the high summits limiting the ability to enjoy the good snow conditions. Light to moderate south winds, mainly prevalent near usual exposed gaps. Warm temps at highway elevation (near 0) but felt much cooler once above 1200 m. Approximately 10 cm light new snow in the last 24 hours mainly undisturbed by wind made for some good skiing when visibility allowed. Mainly toured and skied east aspects. Didn't observe any recent avalanche, stayed clear of some larger steep and convex features (north east facing) that showed signs of wind loading and wind slabs. No signs of instability were noted but didn't investigate in detail the mid-pack, general felt strong. Snowpack depth is good for this time of the year. 180 to 220 cm on east facing glacier at 1750 m. North winds haven't yet done their usual damage!
