During our observation, we confirmed a newly formed persistent weak layer at 130cm up. This layer is going to pose significant problems as the snowpack increases, especially on wind or storm loaded slopes that are at a greater angle than 30 degrees. Just something to keep in mind while traveling through steep or potential avalanche terrain .Currently, it wouldn't be out of the question to have a new snow or loose snow avalanche. We performed a Propagation Saw Test on this layer and our isolated column did fully propagated at the saw passed approx. halfway through the column giving us a PST43/100@135cm Our Extended Column Test yielded almost no results other than some minor cracking. However we did shear the new layer of snow, sitting on the 135cm weak layer, with a shovel shear test. Be careful and mindful while traveling through avalanche terrain as persistent slab avalanches can be very large and deadly. Areas of significant wind loading especially on North and East slopes.

Snowpack

Our observation pit was 205cm (81") deep. There was about 15" of new storm snow added to the 16" of snow that is sitting on top of a weak thin ice crust plus facets under that at 135cm up or a little over 70cm down.
