Texas Meadow and Playground

Toured out Texas Meadow & the Playground yesterday. Observed warming snow & glopping skins on S/SE aspects while snow stayed cool on E and NE aspects. We noticed a natural D1 slab avalanche that had just released around 1pm on a cone below the cliffs directly SW of Texas Meadow. NE aspect, 7600'. Looked like it broke about 2-3' deep, 10' wide, and ran 25'. We dug on a NE aspect near the Playground at 7902' and found a sizable 5-10cm thick faceted weak layer down about 60cm that was falling out of our pit wall. Not enough of a cohesive slab had formed over this layer where we dug, and we saw no propagation, but it was enough to confirm the presence of the weak layer beneath last week's snow. We guessed this was the same weak layer that produced the avalanche we saw.
