GNP - Two Medicine

-Motivated by a forecast for low winds on the east side of the Park we went out and found very pleasant conditions. Basically calm, or with occasional light puffs of wind from the west, even up in the alpine. -Very little snow, and skis optional. Our objectives were to climb and we didn't bring them. There basically isn't any snow below about 6500'. Above that, where there was snow, it was generally supportable in boots with penetration 3-6", with some occasional deeper post-holing. -We climbed a face on a SE aspect up to our high point which consisted primarily of steep snow climbing. -No recent avalanche activity and no signs of instability observed on our route or in any of the visible, distant terrain. -Despite the very warm temperatures and sunshine, the snowpack was generally aged and consolidated and we were not concerned about surface instabilities/loose snow avalanching. -The snowpack surface crusts were slightly wet/moist all the way above 9000' feet on sunny aspects. -There were some more recent wind slabs, likely formed in the past few days. These were bonded well to the underlying snow and were capped by a surface crust. We could not initiate any failures.
