Shames Permagrin

lucasmatt, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Temp inversion present at about 900m. Below that elevation surface hoar growing to unimaginable sizes and the cold valley bottom temps are faceting out what little snow there is. Above 900m on steep S and SW slopes the snow is sun affected. Was pinwheeling from the previous day on steep SW facing slopes. We found dry powder on all other slopes. There was no surface hoar present on NW facing Permangrin Bowl or E facing Geronimo Bowl. Ski quality where not tracked out was ok. Ski pen 5-10cm, boot pen 15-30cm, sky 50%, temp above zero, winds calm, no visible avalanches and a lot of steep slopes were skied over the weekend as evidenced from the plentiful tracks. We were going to ski Thunderbowl but there was already 2 tracks so went with Permagrin instead which was dryer and thankfully untracked.
