Dispatcher col

bryan.daneau, Friday 26th March, 2021 7:15PM

Plan A was Cheops North bowl which we bailed on due to high winds. Plan B was Ursus minor although the level of snow transport on the ridge was significant and snow was consolidating. We therefore opted for Dispatcher bowl and headed to the col between Ursus minor and Grizzly - good choice as we were sheltered from the wind. Sun peeked through the clouds a few minutes and really packed a punch. Some loose dries observed to size 1.5 on the lee side of Ursus ridge and some older slabs from cornice drops. Nothing to report on our tour although we did get some good cracking (see pic) on low angle wind lips (which was expected). Dispatcher waterfall was moist and had seen quite a few tracks. Good day but the winds were mod with strong gusts at times. No slab had built on top of the March 18th interface where we were today. Ski pen was roughly 20cm in the alpine and we had a good 40-50cm on top of the March 18th layer.
