“Skiing is not historic”

shadcollins5, Monday 11th December, 2023 5:30PM
Made an attempt on grizzly couloir this afternoon. Got shut down by the last crux ascending to the peak. It is incredibly thin and faceted with little to no purchase (see photo below). We also experienced a pretty significant whumf while crossing the open south slope on the col towards the crux. As a compromise we found some mind blowing turns on the South face of Grizzly. The start zone at the top of the slope was quite slabby but completely unresponsive to three ski cuts on a convex feature. The snow lower down was much less consolidated and skied like hero snow from 2300-1800m. A ski cut pulled out a .5 loose dry on a shaded east facing slope (~35• @2050m) with a disturbing about of energy behind it. It didn’t step down , but effortlessly gathered mass and ran ~100m. Met up with a wild card of a man attempting to ski the couloir solo. He also turned around at the col below the crux.
