Snowy Seaton

Northwest Inland

Stormy conditions at Seaton today. Not much wind but snowing heavily. Found an interesting snow interface in a hasty snow pit at 1500m on a sheltered NW aspect: at 20cm depth, a hard crust with 3-4cm of facets overtop. The new storm snow overtop wasn't yet stiff enough to form a slab, so not concerning today, but could be concerning in the future. CTE 2, sudden collapse, and no results on an ECT. You could feel the facets collapsing on this layer beneath your feet on the up track. We skied enjoyable trees all day in the fresh snow and celebrated a return to winter conditions.
