Darn good day skiing Log Cabin. The sunny holes found the mountain, after a densely clouded tour up things broke apart enough for great light.
Turned around on the bench at the top of the dog leg, on the west of the summit due to 2 large wompfs. Disconcerting.
Quick pokes revealed that layers and faceting still present under 2ish CM crust at that place. 11:05 am
Thicker crust on north and easterly aspects (limited freeze on west aspects last night?), no signs of instability. Crust in places, ski crampons were a big help.
Snow noticeably more supportive on north east aspect coming up
At approx 1500m air temp 1 degree and snow temp 0 (10:30 am)
Good to great skiing on the way down, fun hard snow up top and surfy corn lower.
Didn't expect wompfs today, keep your head up and ears open on higher elevations, the pack hasn't gone to isotherm yet.
