Quick Observation

Skied in and across the valley from the Hector South Outlier. Snow quality was good on W/SW aspects across the valley, however W/SW aspects on Hector South were wind affected. As expected the leeward aspects had a cakey wind slab feel, however it was nonreactive on those slopes. Over the day there was no signs of instability noted while picking mellow approaches and even in steeper terrain on the ski down. It should be noted that the old storm snow that was not wind affected appears to be non reactive in steeper terrain unlike other areas where it runs fast. Large cornices all along the South Bowl area, one appearing to fail without triggering anything underneath the fall zone. See snowpack tab for point obs.

Snowpack

No reaction on a standard compression test (CTN). No reaction of the storm snow on a shovel tilt test. There was roughly 20cm of old storm snow on top of the Dec 7 crust that was still fist hardness. Below sun crust was mostly 4 finger consolidated mid pack. Was unable to identify the Biden crust at this location. It should be noted that there was not wind affected snow at the test pit.
