Did an ECT test on a North Facing, 22 degree slope on Forum Ridge near the top of the wind loaded burned area (from Kenow Fire) at elevation 1870m. Snow depth 185 cm. We got a small slightly resistant fracture 45 cm down on hard melt/freeze crust after only 5 taps from wrist (ECTN-05), and some resistant propagation for 30 cm after 20 strokes from elbow (ECTP-20). A subsequent shovel pry test resulted in a sudden and easy failure of the block 45 cm down on the melt/freeze crust. Good powder skiing on the north facing slopes, but due to the weird ECT results (corroborated by a visitor safety specialist we met in the parking lot), we stuck to skiing slopes 25 degrees and under, and avoided any convex rolls.
