Quick Observation

Flew into Hanes Valley this afternoon with Talon Helicopters and made some Avalanche observations from the air. Significant avy activity, perhaps 3-4 days old, probably due to recent warming trends. One large slide, roughly 2.5, has come straight down the valley from Crown Pass. Start zone in clouds so could not see the trigger. Second big slide, roughly 2.5 or perhaps 3, slid off Crown (specifically off of both Spindle and Crown N1 (as labelled in Google Earth) and throughout the drainage slope between them). Runout was all the way to tall timber at the end of the slide path. Runnels in the middle of the deposit appeared to be 2-2.5m deep - total depth of deposit unknown. Hanes valley is closed for the winter, and for good reason! Video of flight and avys at: https://vimeo.com/208778463
