Observation: Lower Weber Drainage

I got up pretty high today and was pleasantly surprised to find excellent snow quality on most aspects. I saw this shallow natural soft slab avalanche that took place a few days ago. It looked to be manageable but ran the distance down to the low angle run-out at the bottom. All of the open slopes I looked at that were over 40 degrees had evidence of shallow soft slab and sluff releases from within the last few days. There is quite a bit of hang fire out there which is in the form of massive cornices that step out into the slopes as well as very sparsely treed north facing slopes that are protected from the wind harboring perfect snow, 6 feet of hard slab then finally basal facets, our weak layer. That's the terrain I kept my distance from today.
