We toured up the Hermit summer trail today to just above the weather station at 2000m. We then skied the Grizzly slide path down to the road. There was widespread surface hoar at treeline in open areas, facets, and we found a previous sun crust on steep solar aspects. The Jan. 10th layer was down 60-70cm, although we did not get any results on this layer in our snowpack tests. The midpack is generally well settled. It was -14 at the parking lot at 7:30am. There was valley fog to about 1500m which mostly cleared up around 10am. A light breeze from the north was felt in the afternoon, and some high cloud rolled in as well.
We preformed several compression tests with similar results. Hard, resistant planar results down 30-40cm on decomposing fragments. No results with the extended column tests (x4).
