Quick Observation

Stunning day around Laughton glacier. Skinned near the top of the summit nearest to laughton glacier cabin. Followed the moraine until it turns westard, and then continued up by the trees. 10-15cm ski penetration the entire route. Powder everywhere with no recent wind redistribution. Southerly lower elevation areas had some some sun crust beneath the powder which seemed capable to slide as a unit on facets below, but we could not trigger any significant slide on this layer on small convex features. Some whumpfs but only in small complex features in flat terrain. South and east winds have formed cornices in the area, at the summit and on the moraine. We observed the aftermath of cornice failure on the moraine from several days prior. Little remnants of the cornice still prone to trigger, as two in our group found out on the descent!
