Quick Observation

Sunny day, no clouds in sight. Skied N aspect in the bowl off Cleveland SE and down first bench of NW glacier. Effect of melt freeze cycle is evident on all aspects at lower elevations. Nice dry snow on N aspect at about 1500m and up with very soft ~1cm crust on top. The upper part of the bowl did not have any crust and had 5-8cm of dry older and lightly faceted snow on a settled base. Awesome skiing!! Dug a quick snow pit high in the bowl (1800m) before venturing on the steeper section towards the summit. Got CTM15 with a sudden planar down 28cm. Issue seemed to be a thin weak layer between the mid-pack and the upper settled snow. Slope angle at 32 degrees. Did not do propagation test as this was enough to steer us away from pushing into anything steeper. Some nice corn snow was found on E aspects on the ski out towards the Summit parking lot. No sign of instability observed aside form occasional minor pinwheeling off solar aspects.
