Exceptional conditions for May 21 on northern aspects of hero’s knob. Up to 40cms of dry snow in sheltered locations in the ALP. Good overnight freeze made for a very supportive snowpack from the road at 730 with a solid surface crust all morning. Still decent at 3pm back at the road. Creek crossings not bridged. Stayed cool in the ALP with mix of sun and clouds. No wind. No significant Na during the day except for one sluff off steep rock face. Lots of snow in the ALP for this time of year. Be bear aware. Saw 4 grizzlies and 1 black bear along the roads today in KCountry.
