Checked on the December 6th surface hoar layer on a north aspect around 1980 m. It was easily visible in our snowpit wall down 17 cm. That said, we had no results in our snowpack tests (ECT and CT), saw no recent avalanche activity, didn’t have any whumpfing or cracking, or any results with ski cuts. We were above the valley cloud and the wind was calm. We enjoyed good skiing conditions on both north and west aspects between 1400 and 2000 m. We saw small surface hoar crystals (sz 1-3 mm) mixed with a trace of new snow on the surface.
