Ski touring on log cabin today. The winds were light from the north and gusting moderate at ridge top adding a chill to the -15c alpine temps. A localized cloud layer obscured the alpine for parts of the morning but cleared into early afternoon.
Climbing up we found 2cms of fresh snow on older wind affected surfaces.
We didn’t find surface hoar today but it wasn’t for lack of looking!
Skiing down we chose a SE line that was protected from the winds by a ridge feature. We jumped on and cut a number of small rolls in convoluted alpine terrain and one did slump in a less than size 1 pocket 30cm deep. We chose to avoid similar features with more consequence. On the way down the ski pen was 5 -15cm which made for good turns all the way down to the highway.
